Who is Bartender with a Book?
Hi, I’m Teghann, the creator of Bartender with a Book!
To start off, I’ll tell you about why I started Bartender with a Book. I deeply enjoy writing but never get the chance to do it. So, I thought that a blog could be a fun way to get writing regularly. Then, when thinking of what to blog about, one of my sisters came up with the idea for Bartender with a Book! With this blog, I hope to make book reviews fun, while also informative. I want to be able to reach book lovers of all backgrounds and ages (well, most ages), by providing something special. So, I’ve included a themed cocktail with each review to try and bring a sense of camaraderie and lightheartedness to each post. And I hope I can help you gain a fun new perspective on the books you’re interested in!
My sister’s idea for Bartender with a Book was perfect in combining my two areas of expertise. Namely, bartending and reading/writing. Honestly, I am no longer a bartender, but I worked as a bartender in various restaurants from 2014–2020, which sparked my love for making (and drinking) cocktails. I also hold a Bachelor’s Degree in English Literature and education from Simon Fraser University, and I studied in editing after university. Post-graduation I intended to become a teacher. However, after taking some time to think about my life I realized it wasn’t for me. So, I decided to stick with what I’m passionate about—teaching adults in a fitness setting! I’ve taught pole dancing for 8 years now, and also teach aerial hoop, aerial yoga, and traditional yoga (learn more at teghannholt.com). Although I know this is what feels best for me, I also still work as a private tutor for kids aged 7–17 as I really do find joy in teaching and helping others.
On a more personal note, I’m 29 and I live in British Columbia with my amazing husband Tom and our puppy. My favourite book genres are mystery, thriller, and fantasy. My other hobbies, outside of drinking and reading, include hiking, camping, listening to podcasts, and travelling. The things that bring me the most happiness in life are making people laugh and making them feel good about themselves. As someone who struggles with mental health and hasn’t always been accepted for who I am, I always want people to feel welcome and accepted when they’re talking to me. So, I hope you feel that way when visiting my blog. And I hope you don’t get too mad when I don’t say unduly harsh things about books I don’t like. I’m just trying my best with this blog, but so are the authors I’ll be reviewing and I don’t want to put anyone down!
